EPLB Emergency Pocket Log Book - SINGLE COPY

The Emergency Pocket Log Book¸(EPLB¸) has been designed for all those who need to attend incidents, but have little or no room to carry either of the existing books, the Emergency Log Book¸ or the Emergency Incident Record Book¸. All three books are available from CWC Services.

The EPLB has the same layout and contents as the larger A4 books but has, of necessity, much less room for entries. It is, therefore, meant for the manager who needs to record his/her actions in an incident, for a short duration, until he/she can get access to one of the larger A4 books. It is also ideal for the paramedic/technician, coastguard/lifeboat staff and similar, so they can record information which may be needed to verify comments made to them or advice given to others in the circumstances where they feel that an auditable record needs to be established.

The EPLB is not intended to take the place of patient specific documentation, but rather to give staff attending emergencies a log book, similar to a police notebook, to everyone who may be vulnerable to allegations or accusations of inappropriate behaviour or actions or who could be subjected to actual hostility or abuse.

Designed to fit into a suit or other jacket, or a handbag, it should prove sufficient for a limited time incident. The paramedic can put the book into a pocket or bag and easily carry it for some weeks, using it sequentially over days/weeks as a log book, or as an incident book if called first to a large scene prior to the arrival of an on call manager, who would probably be carrying one of the larger A4 books as an incident record.

Due to the size of the EPLB, we have produced the book in a landscape format, with each A4 page of the larger books covering two landscape pages in the EPLB¸. The columns are numbered to remind users that one entry should be entered over all 10 columns. It is also suggested that, due to the limited space, good practice would be to put one entry per page, depending of course on the amount of information which needs to be detailed, lining out the unused spaces as suggested in the Best Practice for Loggists guidance inside the back cover.

The EPLB¸ provides another book for managers, ambulance paramedics/technicians or others in emergency public services to safeguard their organisations and provide an audit trail of their activities, either for routine activities which may need recording, or for the larger incident attended as the first responder or on call manager.
