Where Is My Nearest Defibrillator / AED?

Where Is My Nearest Defibrillator / AED?

UPDATE: In 2018 the British Heart Foundation (BHF) started a project in conjunction with Microsoft to set up 'The Circuit', a brand new National Defibrillator Network. Their aim is to have a defibrillator location database for use by all of the UK NHS Ambulance Trusts so that when a 999 call comes in, the Ambulance Service can direct the caller to the nearest defibrillator.

This national database is not open to the public, it's only for use by the NHS; but it very much needs the help of the public and volunteers to input in the location of their local defibrillators.

"By joining The Circuit and registering your defibrillator and carrying out regular status checks, you are helping to save lives right across the UK" says SP's founder and director Steve Bray. You can register today at

When someone is having a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), every single second really does count. Knowing the exact location of your nearest defibrillator (AED) can make all the difference between life and death.

Most public access AEDs are easy to use with voice guided instructions, meaning you can respond and provide immediate life saving treatment, before the ambulance service arrives.

AEDs when used within the first 3-5 minutes of a person suffering a Sudden Cardiac Arrest can dramatically increase a victims chance of survival from less than 5% to as much as 70%. AEDs were designed to be used by virtually anyone with little or no training or experience.

Where can I find my nearest AED / Defibrillator?

We recommend using the GoodSAM App to locate your nearest AED. This is an application for mobile devices that has been developed as a community of Good Samaritans, happy to assist if they are the closest person to an emergency. Many are off duty doctors, nurses, paramedics and other members of the emergency services. They are trained in first aid and may have additional skills. They can maintain an airway, help stop bleeding and if necessary help perform lifesaving cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The app also serves as a register of defibs and lists locations along with allowing alerters to dial the emergency services, and at the same time notify nearby medically qualified responders of a medical emergency. By alerting responders of an emergency, GoodSAM connects those in need with those who have the skills to provide critical help before the emergency services arrive.

"It truly is a great app and something we wholeheartedly recommend" says SP's Founder and Director Steve Bray

This weekend, SP's national sales manager Kevin O'Brien was over from Dublin, Ireland and visiting London to celebrate Gay Pride.
Whilst travelling across London, Kevin received an phone alert via the GoodSam app to a male having a cardiac arrest at Kings Cross Train Station. Kevin was on scene within 2 minutes and along with the emergency services was able to perform CPR including defibrillation.

In June 2016 SP's national sales manager Kevin O'Brien was over from Dublin and visiting London for the weekend. Whilst travelling across London, Kevin received a phone alert via the GoodSAM mobile app to a male having a cardiac arrest at Kings Cross Train Station. Kevin was on scene within 2 minutes and along with the emergency services was able to perform CPR including defibrillation. We are pleased to report that following the efforts of Kevin working with London Ambulance Service, St John Ambulance, British Transport Police and other responders, the patient's heart and breathing were both restarted and that he was subsequently taken to a local hospital by the London Ambulance Service. SP's Managing Director Steve Bray said 'We are all very proud of Kevin's actions this weekend and we know that he is never off duty when it comes to someone in need. The fact that ROSC was achieved is just brilliant news and we wish the patient a full and speedy recovery."

If you know of any unlisted defibrillator locations, we also urge you to upload and update both sites/apps so that others may save a life if they are ever needed.
